To a mixture of 2,4-dichloro-6-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-pyrimidine (2.82 g, 0.12 mol) and NaHCO3 (1.95 g, 0.023 mol) in EtOH at 0° C., add 5-chloro-6-piperazin-1-yl-nicotinic acid ethyl ester (3.44 g, 0.013 mol). Remove the ice bath and stir at room temperature for 16 h. Concentrate under reduced pressure and partition between EtOAc and brine. Dry the organic layer (Na2SO4) and concentrate under reduced pressure to give the title compound.
