Procedure
5% Ru/Al2O3 (101 mg, 0.5 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-bromo-7-hydroxymethylimidazo[5,1-b] thiazole (23 mg, 0.1 mmol) in ethyl acetate (2 ml). The air in the system was replaced with oxygen, and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 18 hr. The solvent was removed by distillation under the reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (ethyl acetate:methanol=60:1) to give 2-bromoimidazo[5,1-b]thiazole-7-carbaldehyde (19 mg, 82%) as a white solid.
