To a solution of intermediate (5) (0.557 g, 1.77 mmole) in 1,2-dichloroethane (250 mL) rhodium(II) trifluoroacetate dimmer (0.058 g, 0.0885 mmole) was added, the reaction was heated to reflux. Then the solution of ethyl diazoacetate (90%, 0.2 mL, 1.77 mmole) in dichloroethane (35 mL) was added via a syringe pump to the mixture over 16 h. The reaction mixture was refluxed for an additional 2 h. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatography (3:1 Hex:EtOAc) to afford intermediate (6) as a yellow solid. Yield: 0.272 g, 38%.
