A mixture of 380 mg (1.69 mmol) of 4.4.7-trimethy-6-trimethylsilylethynylthiochroman, 4 ml of isopropanol and 2.5 ml of aqueous 1N potassium hydroxide was degassed under nitrogen and stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The mixture was concentrated under vacuum and extracted with 2×10 ml of ether. The ether extracts were combined and washed successively with water and saturated NaCl solution and then dried (MgSO4). The solvent was removed in vacuo to give the title compound as a yellow oil.
