Procedure
Preparation of methyl 2-hydroxy-2-naphthylglyoxylate O-methyl oxime ##STR53## 69 g (0.26 mol) of methyl 1-hydroxy-2-naphthylglyoxylate and 44 g (0.53 mol) of O-methylhydroxylamine hydrochloride are introduced into 800 ml of methanol and heated to reflux temperature for 6 h with stirring. The mixture is then concentrated, the residue is taken up in ethyl acetate, and the solution is washed with H2O, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated again. 52 g (0.20 mol) of methyl 1-hydroxy-2-naphthylglyoxylate O-methyl oxime are obtained (77% yield).
