A mixture of N-(2-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)acetamide (25.0 g, 133 mmol), concentrated hydrochloric acid (25 ml) and ethanol(50 ml) was heated at reflux for 3 h. The mixture was cooled to 0° C. and left for crystallisation. The precipitate was collected and dried in vacuo to give 20.0 g of 2-chloro-4-fluorophenylammonium chloride.
