Procedure
6.80 g of the 2-methylimidazo-[1,2-a]pyridine-6-methanol prepared in the Preparative Example 16 was dissolved in 90 ml of chloroform, followed by the dropwise addition of 6.1 ml of thionyl chloride under stirring at room temperature. After 2 hours, the solvent was distilled off. Crude 6-chloromethyl-2methylimidazo-[1,2-a]pyridine hydrochloride was obtained as a brown oil.
