To a solution of 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl azide (3, 5.6 g) in methanol (50 ml) 1M methanolic sodium methoxide (0.5 ml) was added and the solution was stirred overnight at 0° C., then it was neutralized with AG 50W-X8 (H+) ion-exchange resin. The resin was filtered off, the filtrate was evaporated and dried in vacuo to give the known β-D-glucopyranosyl azide (4).
