Procedure

Sodium thiomethoxide (8.97 g) was added to a solution of 2-nitro-4-pentafluorosulphanylbenzonitrile (11.7 g) in acetone and stirred at 20° C. overnight, then evaporated and purified by column chromatography on silica gel eluting with ethyl acetate/hexane (3:97) to give 2-methylthio-4-pentafluorosulphanylbenzonitrile (4.65 g), m.p.101°-1020° C.
