Procedure

A mixture of dimethylsulphate (0.13ml, 1.4 mmol) and dry THF (5ml) was cooled to 0° C. under nitrogen and N,N-dimethyl-[5-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-3-yl]methylamine (0.15 g, 0.62 mmol) was added portionwise over a period of 5 min. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 90 min. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with THF to afford the title compound (0.23 g, 100%) as a colourless solid; mp 182°-185° C. 1H NMR (250 MHz, d6 -DMSO) δ 3.06 (9H, s), 3.38 (3H, s), 4.77 (2H, s), 8.08 (1H, s), 8.30 (1H, s), 8.38 (1H, s), 8.78 (1H, s), 9.31 (1H, s), 12.40 (1H, br s).
