Procedure

A solution of 0.412 mol of fluorenone in 300 ml of tetrahydrofuran is added at 20° C. to a solution of 0.659 mol of (1-methyl-4-piperidyl)magnesium chloride in 600 ml of tetrahydrofuran. The mixture is left stirring overnight and then hydrolyzed in the cold state with ammonium chloride solution. The reaction medium is concentrated and the residue is taken up in one liter of water. The product is extracted with chloroform. The organic phase is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then concentrated. After crystallization of the expected product, the latter is washed with ethyl ether and filtered off.
