Procedure
A solution of 2-propoxybenzoyl chloride (0.99 g) in acetonitrile (7.5 ml) was added dropwise over 5 minutes to a cooled (0° C.), stirred mixture of 2-aminothiophene-3-carboxamide (0.71 g) and triethylamine (0.51 g) in acetonitrile (7.5 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred for one hour while being allowed to warm to ambient temperature and was then allowed to stand overnight. Acetonitrile was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was washed with water and recrystallised from ethanol-water to afford 2-(2-propoxybenzamido)thiophene-3-carboxamide, 0.91 g, m.p. 176.5°-178.5° C.
