Procedure
To 9.0 g of 2-(5-butyl-2-pyridyl)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole, 90 g of a solution of hydrogen bromide in acetic acid was added, followed by heating to 100° C. for 95 hours of reaction while gaseous hydrogen bromide was bubbled. After the reaction, the reaction mixture was poured into 1 liter of water to precipitate a crystal. The crystal was washed with water and recrystallized from a mixture solvent of ethanol/water=9/1 to obtain 2.8 g of an objective product.
