Procedure

200 mL 30% peracetic acid in acetic acid was slowly added to a solution of 50 g 4-acetylamino-2,3-dimethylpyridine in 100 mL glacial acetic acid at 60° C. The solution was held at 70° C. for 12 hours then reduced under vacuum heated by a 50° C. water bath. Yield, 58 g N-oxide.
