Procedure
A mixture of ethyl 3-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,8-dimethylpyrido[4,3-b]indol-5-yl)propanoate (See Example 54A) (1.5 g) and NaOH (3N, 30 ml) in ethanol (30 ml) was stirred at 50° C. for 3 h after which it was cooled to room temperature and neutralized with concentrated HCl. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to obtain crude 3-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,8-dimethylpyrido[4,3-b]indol-5-yl)propanoic acid.
