5-methyl-3-(phenylamino)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-dione (450 mg, 1.75 mmol) is refluxed in POCl3 (20 mL) for 60 hours, and the mixture is evaporated to dryness. The residue is purified by silica gel flash chromatography to give 122 mg product as white solids and 207 mg starting material is recovered (Yield: 47%). MS (FAB) m/z 276.1 [M+H]+.
