Procedure
N-Chlorosuccinimide (1.59 g, 12 mmol) was dissolved in DCM (100 mL) and the solution was cooled to −78° C. 3-Bromothiophenol (1.24 mL, 12 mmol) was added dropwise and the reaction stirred for 30 minutes. Then, 6-chloro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2.2 g, 10 mmol) as a solution in DCM was added in 3 portions and the reaction was allowed to slowly warm to room temperature and continued stirring overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated then purified by silica gel chromatography (0-30% EtOAc in hexanes) to afford the title compound.
