Procedure

To a solution of 4-amino-5-(cyclohexyloxy)-2-methylquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (Example 36, 1.0 g, 3.33 mmol) in ethanol (20 mL) was added a solution of NaHCO3 (294 mg, 3.50 mmol) in water (15 mL). The mixture was stirred and warmed up to 60° C. until the solution become clear then evaporated to dryness to provide sodium 4-amino-5-(cyclohexyloxy)-2-methylquinoline-3-carboxylate (1.07 g, 100%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 1.25-1.45 (m, 3H), 1.50-1.70 (m, 5H), 1.53-1.72 (m, 5H), 1.98-2.00 (m, 2H), 2.64 (s, 3H), 4.59-4.63 (m, 1H), 6.87-6.89 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 7.20-7.22 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.42 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 1H). MS 301 (MH+-H-Na).
