Procedure
A mixture of 2-amino-6-chloro-9-[(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methyl]-7-methyl-purin-8-one obtained in step 3 (9.0 g, 25.73 mmol), Hydrazine hydrate (16 ml, 257.3 mmol) and ethanol (675 ml) were heated at 90-95° C. for 40 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated and solid obtained was filtered off and dried to obtain 2-amino-9-[(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methyl]-6-hydrazino-7-methyl-purin-8-one (6.5 g, 74%) as an off white solid.
