Procedure

To a solution of 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-cyanopiperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.000 g, 3.12 mmol) in methanol (5 ml) at rt was added 4M HCl in dioxane (15 ml). After stirring for 20 h the solution was concentrated to give the deprotected amine as the hydrochloride salt (0.785 g, 98%). LC-MS (LCT2) m/z 221 [M+H4], Rt 2.84 min.
