25 g (126 mmol) 2-chloro-5-nitro-pyrimidin-4-ol, 2.0 g PtO2 and 2.5 L MeOH are hydrogenated (50 psi) for 1 h. The mixture is filtered and concentrated and dried to yield 5-amino-2-chloro-pyrimidin-4-ol.
