Tosylamide (0.69 g, 4.0 mmol), 2-(4-nitrophenyl)oxirane (I83) (0.33 g, 2.0 mmol), benzyltriethylammonium chloride (46 mg, 0.20 mmol) and potassium carbonate (28 mg, 0.20 mmol) were suspended in dioxane (1.0 mL) and the resulting mixture was stirred at 90° C. After four hours the mixture was cooled to room temperature and poured into DCM (15 mL). The resulting mixture was filtered and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed (Isolera, 40 g silica cartridge, 0-100% ethyl acetate/petroleum benzine 40-60° C.) to give the title compound (I84) as an orange solid (363 mg, 38% yield); 1H NMR (400 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ 8.19-8.13 (m, 2H), 7.64-7.59 (m, 2H), 7.57-7.52 (m, 2H), 7.34 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 2H), 7.27 (s, 1H), 5.82 (d, J=4.5 Hz, 1H), 4.71 (dd, J=10.7, 6.0 Hz, 1H), 2.92 (td, J=6.2, 1.7 Hz, 2H), 2.36 (s, 3H).
