A solution of methyl 2-(tert-butoxy)-2-(4-(4-chlorophenyl)-6-methyl-7-oxo-6,7-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-5-yl)acetate (20 mg, 0.043 mmol) in Acetonitrile (0.5 mL) was treated with 4-fluorobenzyl chloride (0.025 mL, 0.213 mmol) and Cs2CO3 (69 mg, 0.213 mmol) and then stirred at 70° C. for 2 hours. The mixture was diluted with water and then extracted with Ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford methyl 2-(tert-butoxy)-2-(4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-fluorobenzyl)-6-methyl-7-oxo-6,7-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-5-yl)acetate as pale a yellow solid which was used with no further purification. LCMS (m/z) ES+=511 (M+1).
