Prepared from (R)-2-methyl-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester in an analogous manner to that described for (2R,5R)-4-carboxymethyl-5-methoxymethyl-2-methyl-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester in Preparations 13 and 14. 1H NMR (Me-d3-OD): 4.51-4.42 (1H, m), 4.10-3.99 (1H, m), 3.58 (1H, d), 3.53-3.39 (2H, m), 3.28 (1H, s), 2.99-2.82 (2H, m), 1.49 (9H, s), 1.36 (3H, d).
