To a solution of 3,3-dimethylindoline-6-carbonitrile (0.35 g, 2.0 mmol) and triethylamine (0.56 mL, 4.0 mmol) in DCM (10 mL) at 0° C. was added chloroacetyl chloride (0.16 mL, 2.0 mmol) dropwise. The reaction was warmed to room temperature and stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was then diluted with water. The organic phase was then separated, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to give the title compound (0.39 g). 1H NMR (CDCl3): 8.47 (s, 1H), 7.40 (d, 1H), 7.24 (d, 1H), 4.14 (s, 2H), 3.94 (s, 2H), 1.42 (s, 6H).
