Benzyl bromoacetate (25.2 mL, 126 mmol) and K2CO3 (50 g, 389 mmol) were added to a solution of (2R,5S)-2-methyl-5-((R)-3-methyl-morpholin-4-ylmethyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (30.5 g, 97.4 mmol) in acetonitrile (300 mL) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 18 h. The solid was removed by filtration and the solvent was removed in vacuo. The crude material was purified by chromatography using a pad of silica eluting with EtOAc/Petrol (1/9 to 4/6) to give the title compound (39 g). MS: [M+H]+=462.
