Procedure
A solution of 2-bromo-5-(diisopentylcarbamoyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine-3-carboxylic acid (0.285 g, 0.672 mmol) in diphenyl ether (6 ml) was heated to 210° C. for 9 hours. The mixture was allowed to cool, loaded on a silica gel pad, rinsed with diethyl ether (10 mL) and dried thoroughly under vacuum. The dried silica gel pad was then connected to a 24 g silica gel ISCO Gold cartridge and eluted with hexanes for 3 min then 0% to 100% ethyl acetate over 11 min. Concentration of the desired fractions afforded 2-bromo-N,N-diisopentylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine-5-carboxamide (0.19 g, 0.475 mmol, 70.7% yield) as a yellow oil. LCMS m/z 380.1, 382.1 (M+H)+
