A solution of 8-methoxy-1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-3-carboxamide (800 mg, 3.66 mmol) in POCl3(40 mL) was heated to reflux for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was subsequently concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (660 mg, 82%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 7.98 (s, 1H), 7.78 (t, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.48 (d, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 7.20 (d, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 4.05 (s, 3H); ESI-MS m/z [M+H]+ 219.
