To 2-chloro-5-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethyl)pyridine 1-oxide (2.5 g) in t-BuOH (50 mL) was added DIEA (3.4 mL) and tert-butyl 2-aminoethylcarbamate (3.0 g). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 days. The solvent was then removed and the residue purified by reverse phase chromatography to afford the desired product (1.3 g).
