4-{5-[2-Ethoxy-5-methyl-1-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl]-[1,2,4]triazol-1-yl}-benzonitrile (Intermediate 14, 130 mg, 0.30 mmol), acetone (4 ml) and 5M HCl (3 ml) were heated together at 60° C. for 2 h and allowed to cool. The acetone was removed in vacuo and the aqueous solution basified with NaHCO3 solution.
