Procedure
To a stirred solution of 7 (0.4 g, 0.9 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added LAH (1.8 mL, 1.8 mmol) at −78° C. The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at the same temperature for 30 mins after which it was quenched with Na2SO4 solution (2 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (10 mL). The ethyl acetate layer was separated and washed with water (2 mL), brine solution (2 mL) and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. Filtration followed by concentration under reduced pressure offered a residue which was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, 60-120, pet ether/ethyl acetate 7/3) to get 8 (200 mg, 58%) as a yellow solid.
