Into a solution of tert-butyl 2,4-di-tert-butoxy-6-(1-methyl-1H-indol-5-yl)-5-vinylnicotinate (44 mg, 0.092 mmol) in dioxane (1.0 mL) was added a solution of HCl in dioxane (4.0 M×1.0 mL, 4.0 mmol). After 1 min, the mixture was evaporated to dryness. The residue was treated with ether and filtered. The solid was collected as 4-hydroxy-6-(1-methyl-1H-indol-5-yl)-2-oxo-5-vinyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid (26 mg, 97%).
