To a solution of (S)-tert-butyl 3-((2-cyano-3-nitrophenoxy)methyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (Example 1e, 13 g, 36 mmol) in EtOAc (200 mL) was added Pd/C (3.82 g, 3.6 mmol 10% solution) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature under H2 for 6 hours until the reaction was complete. The mixture was filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc/hexanes) to yield the title compound (11 g, 92.3%). (M+H)−Boc=232.
