Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Hydrochloric Acid | HCID 313 | — |
| Reactant | Sodium Glutamate | HCID 23672308 | — |
| Product | L-Pyroglutamic Acid | HCID 7405 | — |
Reaction Steps
20 g of monosodium glutamate (Aldrich) was mixed with 11 mL of HCl 32% and the pH was adjusted to about 2.5 (using HCl). The mixture was heated to above 100° C. in an autoclave for 10 hours. Then, the solution was evaporated to dryness to obtain the L-pyroglutamic acid.
