Procedure
Into a 50-mL round-bottom flask, which was purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen, was placed a solution of methyl 3-(2-(methoxymethyl)-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-4-methylbenzoate (compound 27.3, 40 mg, 0.15 mmol) and NCS (24.6 mg, 0.18 mmol) in CCl4 (20 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for 2 h at 50° C., then cooled to room temperature and quenched with water (100 mL). The aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL) and the combined organic layers were washed with brine (3×30 mL), dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 30 mg (crude) of the title compound as a yellow solid.
