Into a 50-mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of methyl 5-(4-chloro-2-(methoxymethyl)-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-2,4-dimethylbenzoate (compound 230.5, 20 mg, 0.06 mmol) in HBr (5 mL, 40% in AcOH). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at 90° C. The resulting mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in 10 mg (55%) of the title compound as a yellow crude solid.
