Procedure
To a solution of 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N,2-trimethyl-1H-imidazole-1-sulfonamide (compound 282.2, 1 g, 4.29 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (30 mL) was added HCl (6 M, 30 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 h at 85° C., then concentrated under reduced pressure. The pH of the solution was adjusted to 7-8 with NaHCO3 (sat.). The resulting mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 3 g (crude) of the title compound as a white solid.
