A solution of methyl 3-(2-(4-methoxycyclohexyl)-4-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-4-methylbenzoate (compound 300.2, 300 mg, 0.88 mmol) in HI (45% in water) (3 mL) was stirred for 2 h at 60° C., then concentrated under reduced pressure. This resulted in 500 mg (crude) of the title compound as brown oil which was used into the next step without further purification.
