Procedure
7.0 g of 2-butylamino-ethyl chloride hydrochloride (Org. Synth. IV 1963, 333) are stirred together with 7.9 g of sodium azide in 50 ml of DMF at 50°. After cooling, 82 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide solution are added dropwise. The mixture is taken up in 700 ml of ether, washed with water and, after drying the ether phase, treated with 25 ml of hydrochloric acid (5 molar in dioxane). After evaporating the ether phase, the residue is suspended in ether. The crystals are filtered and washed with ether. There are obtained 5 g of 2-butylamino-ethyl azide hydrochloride, Rf=0.14.
