Procedure
Ethyl 3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)methyl-quinolin-2[1H]-one-3-carboxylate (1 g) (prepared according to Example 6) was mixed with 2M lithium borohydride solution in THF (15 ml) and heated at reflux. After 4 hours the reaction mixture was quenched by addition of water. The reaction mixture was partitioned between water and dichloromethane and the organic layer was washed with 2M HCl, then with saturated sodium carbonate solution, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue was recrystallised from methanol to give the title compound (0.092 g) mp 193°-200° C.
