Methanesulfonic acid (2.16 g) was added to a suspension of 2-(diaminomethyleneamino)-4-(2-ureidomethylthiazol-4-yl)thiazole (3.19 g) in methanol (95 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration. Recrystallization from a mixture of acetonitrile and water afforded 2-(diaminomethyleneamino)-4-(2-ureidomethylthiazol-4-yl)thiazole methanesulfonate (3.2 g).
