Procedure

A solution of 2.70 gm (0.03 mole) of methyl carbazate, 3.21 gm (0.03 mole) of 4-pyridinecarboxaldehyde and 50 ml of anhydrous methanol if refluxed 8 hr. The hot solution is filtered. The filtrate is diluted with water to the cloud point and cooled to room temperature. The mixture is chilled in the refrigerator. The crystals are collected, washed with water and dried to yield 5.87 gm (99%) of the title compound having a melting point of 159.6° C. (decomp.).
