Procedure

The general reduction procedure of Example 11 of U.S. Pat. No. 4,617,298 was followed, using 0.8 mmol of the steroidal quaternary salt prepared in Example 120, 0.34 g of NaHCO3 and 0.42 g of Na2S2O4 in 50% aqueous methanol at 0° C., with a nitrogen purge. The product had the structural formula: ##STR149##

Workup

  1. customat 0° C.
  2. customwith a nitrogen purge
