304 mg of 7-(5-acetamidomethyl-2-isoindolinyl)-1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro--4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid was added to a mixed solution of 12 ml of concentrated HCl, 2.5 ml of water, and 5 ml of ethanol, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 15 hours. After cooling under atmosphere, the crystals deposited were collected by filtration and washed with ethanol to obtain 264 mg of 7-(5-aminomethyl-2-isoindolinyl)-1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride.
