Procedure

tert-Butyl (2E,4E)-7-phenylhepta-2,4-dienylcarbamate (800 mg) was dissolved in hydrochloric acid in dioxane (4.0M, 8.35 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. The solvent was evaporated and co-evaporated twice with Et2O, Et2O was added, the solids were filtered off under a stream of nitrogen to yield the product as an off white solid.
