500 mg (1.34 mmol) of 2-[4-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-6-trifluoromethyl-1H-benzoimidazole was dissolved in 10 mL of diethylether, followed by stirring for 30 min at a subzero temperature. After saturation with gaseous hydrochloric acid, the solution was stirred for an additional one hour at a subzero temperature. A white precipitate thus obtained was filtered and dried for 24 hours in a vacuum condition to give 513 mg of 2-[4-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-6-trifluoromethyl-1H-benzoimidazole chloride.
