To a solution of 4-Phenyl-1H-quinazolin-2-one (5.0 g, 4.5 mmol) in THF (50 ml) is added methylmagnesium bromide (15.0 ml) dropwise at −78° C. under nitrogen. The mixture is stirred overnight at room temperature. The mixture is poured into an aqueous solution of NH4Cl and then extracted with EtOAc. The organic phase is washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue is purified on silica gel to give product as a white solid.
