Procedure
The solid N-(5-fluoro-2-(2-methoxybenzyloxy)pyrimidin-4-yl)benzenesulfonamide (714 mg, 1.83 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (10 mL) followed by the addition of trifluoroacetic acid (1.0 mL, 13.5 mmol) and allowed to stir at room temperature for 1 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the resulting residue was dissolved in dichloromethane:methanol in a 10:1 ratio. The product was purified by column chromatography (dichloromethane/methanol gradient) to yield N-(5-fluoro-2-hydroxypyrimidin-4-yl)benzenesulfonamide (251 mg, 51% yield) as a white solid: mp 221-223° C.; 1H NMR (300 MHz) δ 11.57 (bs, 1H), 11.11 (bs, 1H), 8.04 (d, J=6.1 Hz, 1H), 7.94-7.84 (m, 2H), 7.71-7.51 (m, 3H).
