Procedure

A mixture of (5-methyl-7-nitro-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-2-yl)methanol (7c) (2.3 g, 0.011 mol) and Pd/C (230 mg, 10%) in THF (30 mL) was introduced H2 and stirred at ambient temperature for 12 h. The mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated to give the title compound (7d) as a solid. MS-ESI (m/z): 180 (M+1)+.
