Procedure

To a stirred solution of (E)-2-(4-(4,4,4-trifluoro-3-(3,4,5-trichlorophenyl)but-1-enyl)phenoxy)isoindoline-1,3-dione (CI.2 g, 0.4 mmol) in EtOH was added hydrazine hydrate (0.1 g, 1.9 mmol), and the resultant reaction mixture was heated at 90° C. for 1 h. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2. washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the crude title compound as a gummy liquid (0.08 g, 53%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.40 (s, 2H), 6.98 (s, 1H), 6.82 (s, 2H), 6.48 (m, 1H), 6.20 (m, 1H), 5.02 (s, 1H), 4.08 (m, 1H); ESIMS m/z 394.94 ([M−H]−).
